The Atlanta Braves beat the Kansas City Royals 10-2 on Wednesday night in the finale of a brief two-game interleague set at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City, allowing the National League East-champion Braves to end a two-game losing skid.
The Royals struck first with a run each in the second and fourth innings. But the Braves struck back with a pair of runs to make it 2-2 in the fifth and took the lead on a two-run single from Dansby Swanson in the sixth.
Highlights of the night also included a three-run double by Josh Donaldson in the top of the eighth.
Donaldson contributed a total of 4 RBIs. Ozzie Albies also drove in a pair of runs, while Nick Markakis and Adam Duvall had an RBI apiece.
Relief pitcher Josh Tomlin got the start for Atlanta, though his fellow reliever Luke Jackson picked up the win. Reliever Jacob Barnes was tagged with the loss for Kansas City.
The Braves’ hopes of making to 100 wins on the 2019 regular season remain alive as they are now 97-62 with only three games left. They have today off and will get back into action over the weekend with a three-game series up in New York against the Mets. First pitch of Friday night’s opener is scheduled for 7:10 pm. That game will not air on WLAQ 1410 AM and 96.9 FM due to our broadcast of high school football during that time. In some not-so-happy news from the Atlanta Braves, Ronald Acuna Jr is out for the rest of the regular season. He left Tuesday’s game early with tightness in his left hip and has been sidelined as a precautionary measure. He will be back in the Braves’ line up for the playoffs.
