LAWMAKERS IN PRECAUTIONARY MODE IN REGARDS TO STATE BUDGET

State lawmakers are in a precautionary mode in regards to the budget, which means that state agencies are currently tasked with exploring ways to tighten their own spending belts.

Governor Brian Kemp has asked state agencies to make four percent cuts in the existing budget and cuts of up to six percent for 2021.

Katie Dempsey, who represents Georgia’s 13th District in the state House of Representatives, believes that it is ‘better to be prepared than to be surprised’.  She asserts that lawmakers and agencies have worked cooperatively to make the necessary cuts.

The House budget office meets frequently to ensure that agencies receive and spend funding as intended, as well as to explore additional means to increase their savings, adds Dempsey.

Dempsey was among local legislators that addressed constituents’ concerns at a breakfast hosted by the Rome-Floyd Chamber on Wednesday morning.
