Governor Brian Kemp has announced that all Georgians age 16 and over will be eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine, effective this Thursday, March 25th. He made the announcement at a press conference on Tuesday afternoon at the State Capitol down in Atlanta, for which he was joined by the Georgia Department of Public Health Commissioner Dr. Kathleen Toomey and by the Georgia Emergency Management/Homeland Security Agency Director Chris Stallings.
The governor urged media outlets to share with the public data from the CDC which indicates that Georgia has been shipped the second fewest number of doses of the vaccine per 100,000 residents out of all 50 states. This state has administered some 81 percent of the vaccines it has received from the federal government.
An increase of the Johnson & Johnson and Pfizer vaccines is anticipated next week. The state received over 450,000 vaccines this week to include both the first and second doses.
Kemp also noted that significant progress has been made towards vaccinating Georgia’s seniors.
Tuesday’s update on COVID-19 vaccine distribution in Georgia was streamed live (and may still be viewed) on Governor Brian Kemp’s Facebook page and on his website at www.gov.georgia.gov.
