NORTHWEST GEORGIA COUNCIL OF BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA WILL BE SCOUTING FOR FOOD THIS SATURDAY

The Northwest Georgia Council of the Boy Scouts of America will venture to local neighborhoods on Saturday to accept donations for the annual Scouting for Food program, touted as ‘a national good turn for America’ to gather food for local food banks.

It is no secret that the past year has been challenging for many people. Mary Hardin Thornton, Council President, asserts that Scouting for Food is a great way to help the community in a time of need and a great lesson for all scouts involved.

Those canned goods and nonperishable items will be collected locally for the Salvation Army of Rome. Lt. Paula Blevins indicates that they are in need of canned meat such as tuna, chicken, and Vienna sausage. Cans with a pop-top would be especially appreciated.

Concerned citizens may take donations over to the Salvation Army, located at 317 East 1st Avenue in Rome.

Volunteers with the Rome Rotary Club will assist with unloading and sorting of donations.

Scouts distributed door hangers last Saturday in order to alert the community about Scouting for Food.
