A total of 5,890 new cases of COVID-19 were reported on Thursday across Georgia by the state’s Department of Public Health, which additionally noted 56 virus-related fatalities.
According to the latest report by the DPH issued just before 3 pm, there have been 494,173 confirmed cases of COVID-19 statewide. The state’s death toll now stands at 9,358. In Floyd County, there were 5,972 confirmed cases and 97 fatalities. Fulton County had the state’s highest number of confirmed cases with 44,255 and the most deaths with 714.

Governor Brian Kemp and DPH Commissioner Dr. Kathleen Toomey offered an update on Thursday at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta about COVID-19 and the ongoing distribution of vaccines in Georgia. Dr. Toomey received the vaccine after the update, which may be viewed on the Governor’s website at www.gov.georgia.gov. Shipments of the COVID-19 vaccine have begun to arrive in Rome and will be administered over the next couple of days to staff members of Floyd and Redmond Regional Medical Centers, according to this morning’s Rome News-Tribune.
