The Community Foundation for Greater Rome has announced a second round of small grants from their COVID-19 Recovery Fund to six Rome nonprofits. This fund is an initiative to help local nonprofits address the long-term needs in Rome/Floyd County as the effects of the coronavirus pandemic continue to unfold.
Over $25,000 in this second round of grants have been awarded to the Davies Shelter, the Exchange Club Family Resource Center, the Salvation Army, the Open Door Children’s Home, Boys and Girls Clubs of NWGA, and the Free Clinic of Rome. The grants will mainly fund additional supplies and service costs incurred by the pandemic to include personal protective equipment (or PPE), cleaning supplies, food, and additional technology needs.
Ashley Garner, Executive Director of the Community Foundation for Greater Rome, indicates, “After quickly dispersing mini grant funds to 17 different nonprofits early in the pandemic, we kept a reserve in this fund because we knew the need would continue.” Garner additionally states that many of the local non-profits have lost fundraising revenue while experiencing a surge in the need for their services.
