The Rome Christmas Parade is on for tonight! The first-ever drive in edition of the parade will take place from 6 pm to 8 pm at State Mutual Stadium, the home of the Rome Braves.
Janet Byington, Co-Chair, acknowledges that while this “COVID edition” of the parade will be different, it will still be fun.
Rome Police Department officers will direct traffic through the parking lot of the stadium, which will be full of floats, inflatables, and lights. Santa Claus is coming to town at the end of the route, enthuses Byington.
This year’s theme is “Heroes of 2020” with a nod to the healthcare workers, first responders, teachers, and others who have been on the frontlines of the coronavirus pandemic. Mike McDougald has been chosen as Grand Marshal for this year, though he will not be able to attend in person. The route for the drive-in edition of the Rome Christmas Parade has been posted on the event’s website, www.romechristmasparade.com and on Facebook.
