The Atlanta Braves defeated the Washington Nationals 7-6 on Thursday night in the opener of a four game series at Nationals Park in Washington DC. That was the second straight win for the NL East-leading Braves.
Atlanta rallied back from a 5-0 deficit to nab the victory. Freddie Freeman led the charge with a pair of two run homers to include the game-tying shot in the top of the seventh inning. And with it, Freeman took the lead in the MLB for RBIs. Dansby Swanson gave the Braves a 7-6 lead with a solo homer in the top of the eighth.
Ronald Acuna Jr. also contributed a two-run homer in the fifth. Chris Martin was credited with the win in relief, while Mark Melancon got the save for the Braves. Starting pitcher Robbie Erlin lasted only one and a third innings.
The Braves will face the Nationals again tonight at 6:05 pm. That game will not be broadcast on WLAQ 1410 AM and/or 96.9 FM due to our coverage of high school football. Tune in for the play by play of Saturday’s and Sunday’s outings in DC on WLAQ from the Atlanta Braves Radio Network.
