AAA: GEORGIA’S GAS PRICE AVERAGE ROSE DURING THE PAST WEEK

Media release from AAA – The Auto Club Group:

The Georgia gas price average increased at the pumps compared to a week ago.  Georgians pay an average of $2.93 per gallon for regular unleaded gasoline (subject to change overnight). Monday’s state average is 23 cents more than a week ago, 2 cents less than a month ago, and 9 cents less than last year. It costs drivers an average price of $43.95 to fill a 15-gallon tank of regular gasoline. Georgians are paying $1.35 less to fill up at the pump compared to a year ago.

“Due to the negative impacts of Hurricane Helene, Governor Kemp signed an Executive Order suspending the collection of motor fuel tax until October 16th. With the expiration of this gas tax reprieve, Georgians are now confronted with a renewed strain each time they refuel,” said Montrae Waiters, AAA-The Auto Club Group spokeswoman. “Fortunately, amid these challenges, there lies a glimmer of hope as Georgia’s state average for gas prices remains a comforting 24 cents below the national average.”

AAA encourages drivers to take advantage of the money-saving gas tips listed below.

Nationally:

Since last Monday, the national average for a gallon of regular gasoline decreased by 3 cents to $3.17 (subject to change overnight). Like Hurricane Helene, Milton did not severely impact national gasoline supplies but did affect demand in areas with destroyed infrastructure, flooded roads, and power outages.

  • Enroll in fuel savings programs.

Fuel-Saving Tips for Drivers

  • Maintain your vehicle to ensure the best fuel economy. Find a trusted automotive facility at AAA.com/Auto Repair.
  • Combine errands to limit driving time.
  • Slow down. Fuel economy diminishes significantly at highway speeds above 50 mph. Drive conservatively and avoid aggressive driving. Aggressive acceleration and speeding reduce fuel economy.

Traffic Safety Tip: AAA-The Auto Club Group “Move Over For Me” Campaign

“Drivers, if you see a disabled vehicle on the roadside while traveling, be courteous and Move Over,” said Waiters. “Remember, the person who broke down could be you, a friend, a family member, a coworker, or a neighbor. Move Over for the safety of others and because it is the right thing to do!”
