Ann Hortman, coordinator of the tours, expressed her enthusiasm: “I love coordinating this tour every year because it provides a wonderful opportunity for both locals and visitors to uncover the fascinating stories that shaped our community. Each tour reveals a different facet of Rome’s past, making history accessible and engaging.”

Myrtle Hill Cemetery, established in 1857, is the final resting place for over 20,000 of Rome’s distinguished residents. Among them are 368 Civil War graves, four U.S. Congressmen, a Congressman of the Confederate States of America, a U.S. Senator, and Ellen Axson Wilson, wife of the 28th President of the United States. This historic site is proudly listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Please note that Myrtle Hill Cemetery features a mix of paved and unpaved paths, with some steep slopes, stairs, and uneven surfaces. For safety reasons, strollers are not recommended. Parking for the tour is available along Myrtle Street and at the Kingfisher Trail Head. Guests are encouraged to wear comfortable shoes and clothing for an enjoyable experience.
