ATLANTA BRAVES DROP SUNDAY SERIES FINALE TO KANSAS CITY ROYALS, AIM TO CLINCH A PLAYOFF SPOT TODAY IN TWIN BILL VERSUS NEW YORK METS

The Atlanta Braves fell to the Kansas City Royals by 4-2 on Sunday in the finale of a three-game set at Truist Park. It denied a sweep of the series for the Braves, who also saw their latest winning streak come to an end at five straight. They have two more opportunities to clinch a spot in the 2024 MLB playoffs this afternoon.

The Royals struck first with a three-run homer by Michael Massey in the top of the first inning. Gio Urshela clubbed a home run for the Braves to open up the bottom of the third. Hunter Renfroe had a homer for the Royals in the top of the fourth. Ramon Laureano drove in a run for the Braves with an RBI single during the bottom of the fourth.

Charlie Morton was charged with the loss for Atlanta after surrendering four runs and five hits, walking two, and striking out three in just four and a third innings. Alec Marsh was credited with the win and Kris Bubic picked up the save for Kansas City.

The Braves’ mission to clinch a spot in the 2024 MLB playoffs has now been extended to today because of that loss to the Royals. They need just one win in a double header against the New York Mets today in order to secure a National League Wild Card spot in the postseason. Tune in for play-by-play coverage of that twin bill from the Atlanta Braves Radio Network locally on WLAQ 1410 AM or 96.9 FM; airtime is 11:55 am with first pitch of game one at 1:10 pm.
