ATLANTA BRAVES TAKE NL EAST SERIES OPENER VERSUS NEW YORK METS

The Atlanta Braves defeated the New York Mets by 5-1 on Tuesday night in the opener of a three-game National League East set at Truist Park. That was Atlanta’s third straight win.

The Braves scored three runs during the bottom of the third inning on an RBI double from Michael Harris II and RBI singles from Ozzie Albies and Ramon Laureano. Harris II added a solo home run in the fourth. He ended the night a triple shy of the cycle. He also had a diving catch to rob rookie Luisangel Acuna of a base hit in the top of the fifth. Marcell Ozuna clubbed a home run to begin the bottom of the fifth. Mark Vientos drove in the Mets’ lone run of the night with a home run during the top of the seventh.

Spencer Schwellenbach picked up the win for Atlanta after giving up just one run and three hits, walking one, and striking out four in seven innings. Luis Severino was charged with the loss for New York.

The Braves improved to 86-71 on the 2024 regular season, now a game back from the Mets and a half game behind the Arizona Diamondbacks for the last two NL Wild Card spots in the MLB playoffs.
