Georgia Highlands College (GHC) will offer its 10th baccalaureate degree – a Bachelor of Science in Digital Media and Communication – starting in fall 2025.
The degree, housed by the School of Humanities, is a comprehensive, multi-disciplinary program designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills required to thrive in the dynamic world of digital media and communication. It offers a unique blend of cutting-edge digital media strategies to prepare graduates for success in the rapidly evolving digital landscape.
“We are thrilled to provide students in this region training and access to work in Georgia’s multi-billion-dollar creative economy,” Dean of the School of Humanities Jessica Lindberg said. “We worked with the marketing and communication entities of many businesses in our communities to build a degree that fits workplace needs.”
While pursuing the degree, students will gain a deep understanding of production fundamentals, consumer behavior, market research, branding, creative content creation, ethical and legal aspects, social media branding and analytics, as well as business strategy, which will serve as a strong foundation for their expertise.
Graduates of the program will be well-prepared to pursue careers in various sectors of the creative economy. They can seek positions such as media programing directors, managers and supervisors in the digital entertainment industry, fundraising managers for non-profit organizations in the arts, healthcare, or environmental fields, convention and event planners, public relations specialists, social media strategists, content creators and more.
In addition, graduates may explore entrepreneurial opportunities and start their own digital marketing agencies or consultancies. Students may also earn a certificate in film production, film post-production, or digital entertainment/eSports through the Georgia Film Academy in conjunction with the bachelor’s degree, thereby opening avenues in the highly lucrative creative economy of Georgia.
The program offers flexibility that meets the needs of traditional and non-traditional students with online, in-person, and hybrid courses. By enrolling in the Bachelor of Science in Digital Media and Communication program, students will acquire a versatile skill set that enables them to thrive in a technology-driven business landscape, making them invaluable assets to companies seeking to build and expand their online presence and customer engagement.
