The Atlanta Braves defeated the Cincinnati Reds 15-3 on Thursday afternoon in the finale of a three-game set at Cincinnati, OH. Atlanta took the series by 2-1.
The Braves hit a total of six home runs, including four three-run homers to become the first team in MLB history (since 1900) to hit at least four three-run homers in a single game.
Matt Olson got the Braves on the board with a home run to lead off the top of the second inning. Ramon Laureano clubbed a three-run homer in the top of the third. The Reds scored their first run of the day during the bottom of that inning on an RBI single by Jonathan India. The Braves notched four runs in the top of the fifth with an RBI ground rule double from Marcell Ozuna and a three-run homer by Olson. The Reds scored another run on a homer by Blake Dunn to begin the bottom of the fifth. Jorge Soler hit a three-run bomb for the Braves during the sixth. Elly De La Cruz drove in Cincinnati’s third and final run of the day with an RBI single in the seventh. Michael Harris II led off the top of the eighth with a home run, then added a three-run shot for Atlanta in the ninth.
Chris Sale secured the win for Atlanta after giving up just two runs and five hits, walking two, and striking out six in five innings. Julian Aguilar took the loss for Cincinnati.
The Braves improved to 83-70 for the 2024 regular season and are still two games back from the New York Mets and the Arizona Diamondbacks for the last National League Wild Card spot in the MLB postseason. They will wrap up their final road trip of the regular season this weekend with a three-game NL East set in Miami versus the Marlins.
