The Atlanta Braves beat the Cincinnati Reds by 7-1 on Wednesday night in the second meeting of a three-game set in Cincinnati, OH. That marked the first victory of 2024 over the Reds for the Braves, who snapped a three-game losing skid. The teams’ current series is now even at a game each.
The Braves notched the first run of the night on an RBI single by Matt Olson in the top of the fourth inning. TJ Friedl had a sac bunt for the Reds to tie the game in the bottom of the sixth. Marcell Ozuna broke that tie in favor of the Braves with a home run to lead off the seventh. Gio Urshela added a two-run single in that inning. Michael Harris II clubbed a home run to begin the eighth. Ozuna drove in another run with an RBI double during that inning; that was his 100th RBI of the season. Urshela tallied his third RBI of the night with a ground rule double in the ninth.
Spencer Schwellenbach was credited with the win for Atlanta after giving up just one run and five hits, walking two, and striking out five over six innings. Tony Santillan was charged with the loss for Cincinnati.
The Braves improved to 82-70 on the 2024 regular season and are currently two games back from the New York Mets and the Arizona Diamondbacks for the final National League Wild Card spot in the MLB postseason. They will conclude their series in Cincinnati versus the Reds this afternoon. First pitch is set for 1:10 pm.
