ATLANTA BRAVES GIVE UP SEVEN RUNS IN THE NINTH AND FALL TO LOS ANGELES DODGERS IN SUNDAY NIGHT GAME AT TRUIST PARK

The Atlanta Braves lost to the Los Angeles Dodgers by 9-2 on Sunday night in the third meeting of a four-game National League set at Truist Park. That loss followed Atlanta victories in the first two games of the series.

The Braves struck first with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third inning on a bases-loaded walk by Matt Olson and an RBI single from Travis d’Arnaud. The Dodgers tied it up with RBI doubles from Shohei Ohtani in the fifth and seventh. They took the lead with seven runs in the ninth to include a two-run homer from Teoscar Hernandez which were followed by a pair of solo shots from Tommy Edman and Max Muncy.

Raisel Iglesias surrendered five of those runs to the Dodgers and was charged with the loss for Atlanta, whose starting pitcher Charlie Morton gave up just one run and three hits, walked two, and struck out six in six innings. Michael Kopech was credited with the win for LA.

The Braves are 81-68 on the 2024 regular season, nine games behind the NL East-leading Philadelphia Phillies and in a tie with the New York Mets for the final NL Wild Card. The Dodgers lead the NL West with a record of 88-61. The series finale between the Braves and the Dodgers at Truist Park is on tap for this evening at 7:20 pm.
