The Atlanta Braves fell to the Philadelphia Phillies by 5-4 on Thursday night in the opener of a four-game National League East set at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, PA. That brought Atlanta’s latest winning streak to an end at three straight.
The Braves struck first with an RBI double by Orlando Arcia during the top of the second inning. They made it 3-0 on a two-run homer by Matt Olson in the third. Olson had another home run to lead off the sixth. Brandon Marsh had a three run homer in the bottom of that inning for the Phillies, who took the lead with a two-run shot by Nick Castellanos during the seventh.
Grant Holmes was charged with the loss for Atlanta. Orion Kerkering picked up the win and Jeff Hoffman got the save for Philadelphia.
The Braves are now 73-61 on the 2024 season and remain in second place of the NL East, now six games behind the division-leading Phillies. The teams will meet again this evening at 6:40 pm. That game will not be broadcast on WLAQ 1410 AM/96.9 FM due to our coverage of high school football. Tune into WLAQ for the play-by-play story of the rest of the weekend series from the Atlanta Braves Radio Network.
