Georgia Labor Commissioner Bruce Thompson said Thursday that Rome recorded an unemployment rate of 4.2 percent in July, up three-tenths of a percent over-the-month. A year ago, the rate was 3.4 percent.
“With over 5 million Georgians ready to work, our mission is clear: to turn this untapped potential into real, meaningful job opportunities,” said Commissioner Bruce Thompson. “To build a stronger, more resilient Georgia for tomorrow, we must partner with businesses today to create jobs, leverage the power of our skilled workforce, and keep unemployment low.”
The labor force increased in Rome by 122 and ended the month with 48,661. That number went up by 4,139 when compared to July of 2023.
Rome finished the month with 46,632 employed residents. That number decreased by 16 over-the-month and rose by 3,645 when compared to the same time a year ago.
Rome ended July with 47,500 jobs. That number decreased by 200 from June to July and rose by 4,300 when compared to this time last year.
In July, initial unemployment claims increased by 252 in Rome. When you compare July 2024 claims to July 2023, claims were up by 68, totaling 487.
Northwest Georgia
- The unemployment rate was up one-tenth to 3.9 percent over-the-month, the rate was 3.1 percent one year ago.
- The labor force was up 896 over-the-month and up 12,357 over-the-year, to 449,760, an all-time high.
- The number of employed was up 654 over-the-month and up 8,541 over-the-year, to 432,243.
- Initial claims were up 1,356 over-the-month and up 309 over-the-year, to 3,113.
