The Atlanta Braves were shut out by the Miami Marlins on Sunday afternoon by 7-0 in the finale of a four-game National League East set at Truist Park. It resulted in a 2-2 split of the series and marked the Braves’ first shutout loss at home in almost three years.
The Marlins notched six runs during the top of the fourth inning on an RBI single from Cristian Pache, fielder’s choice by Ali Sanchez, RBI single from Xavier Edwards, and three run homer by Jonah Bride. They scored another run on a sac fly by Jake Burger in the eighth.
Max Fried was charged with the loss for Atlanta in his return from the injured list after surrendering five runs and four hits, walking five, and striking out six in just three and one-third innings. Edward Cabrera picked up the win for Miami.
The Braves remain in second place of the NL East with a record of 60-51 for the 2024 season. They have a scheduled off-day today and will resume their current seven-game homestand on Tuesday night with the first of three games against the NL Central-leading Milwaukee Brewers at Truist Park.
