ROME EMPERORS CONCLUDE FIRST HALF OF 2024 SEASON WITH LOSS TO GREENVILLE DRIVE

(Media release from the Rome Emperors):

At 36-28 overall, the Rome Emperors officially closed the first-half with a 10-3 loss to Greenville Thursday night.

Lucas Braun gave up a first-inning two-run homer to Greenville’s Cutter Coffey and the Drive never looked back. They would go on to score a run in the third, five in the sixth, and two in the ninth to finish with 10 total runs on a dozen hits. Braun recorded one out in the sixth and finished with nine strikeouts. Tyree Thompson and Rob Griswold would handle the final 3.2 innings, and each would give up a couple of runs. It’s just the fourth time all season that Rome has given up double-digit runs.

E.J. Exposito sent doubles 14 and 15 down the left field line in his first two at-bats out of the leadoff spot. He would score after his third inning double on a groundball to third that was mishandled by Ahbram Liendo.

Back-to-back singles from Drew Compton and Stephen Paolini led off the bottom of the seventh and set the table for Tim Borden who collected his first hit in the Braves organization, a double to left that would score both runners. Compton would finish with two hits on the day.

The second-half officially gets underway on Friday evening with first pitch slated for 7:00pm EDT against the Greenville Drive.

Rome’s current series versus Greenville continues through the weekend. First pitch is set for 5 pm on Saturday evening and 1 pm on Sunday afternoon.
