ATLANTA BRAVES SHUT OUT IN SERIES FINALE AT BOSTON BY RED SOX

The Atlanta Braves were shut out by the Boston Red Sox 9-0 on Wednesday afternoon in the last meeting of a two-game set at Fenway Park up in Boston, MA. That denied a sweep of the four-game regular season series between the teams for Atlanta.

The Red Sox scored three runs in the bottom of the second inning on a lead-off home run by Rafael Devers, an RBI double by David Hamilton, and a sac fly by Reese McGuire. They tacked on three more runs during the fifth with an RBI double by Emmanuel Valdez, an RBI single by Tyler O’Neill, and an RBI double by Dominic Smith. Devers had a two-run homer in the seventh, and Jarren Duran homered in the eighth.

Wednesday marked the first time that the Braves have been shut out since May 2023.

Spencer Schwellenbach was charged with the loss for Atlanta after giving up six runs and seven hits, walking two, and striking out four over four and two-third innings. Nick Pivetta was credited with the win for Boston; he and the Red Sox bullpen limited the Braves to just one hit.

The Braves remain in second place of the National League East with a record of 34-25. They will face the third place Washington Nationals this evening in the first outing of a four game set at Nationals Park in Washington DC. First pitch is slated for 6:45 pm.
