Georgia Labor Commissioner Bruce Thompson said Thursday that Rome recorded an unemployment rate of 3.0 percent in March, up one-tenth over the month. A year ago, the rate was 3.0 percent.
“Georgia’s job market is red hot with opportunity,” said Commissioner Bruce Thompson. “This continuous growth is a strong indicator that our economic momentum is not slowing down any time soon. Once again, Georgia continues to shatter records in growing businesses statewide and creating jobs for hardworking Georgians.”
The labor force increased in Rome by 414 and ended the month with 49,003. That number went up by 1,457 when compared to March of 2023.
Rome finished the month with 47,521 employed residents. That number increased by 321 over-the-month and rose by 1,412 when compared to the same time a year ago.
Rome ended March with 47,800 jobs. That number increased by 200 from February to March and rose by 1,100 when compared to this time last year.
In March, initial unemployment claims decreased by 2 (-1%) in Rome. When you compare March 2024 claims to March 2023, claims were down by 27 (-12%).
Northwest Georgia
- The unemployment rate was up two-tenths to 3.1 percent over-the-month, the rate was 3.2 percent one year ago.
- The labor force was up 3,423 over-the-month and up 8,047 over-the-year, to 448,089, an all-time high.
- The number of employed was up 2,476 over-the-month and up 7,954 over-the-year, to 434,073, an all-time high.
- Initial claims were down 355 (-16%) over-the-month and down 1,164 (-39%) over-the-year, to 1,817.
