The Atlanta Braves finished their first homestand of the 2024 regular season with a loss to the New York Mets by 16-4 on Thursday in a National League East outing at Truist Park.
The Mets struck first with an RBI single from Brett Baty in the top of the first inning. They notched two more in the second as Brandon Nimmo drove in a run on an RBI double, then reached home plate on a fielding error. Francisco Alvarez and Jeff McNeil each had RBI doubles in the third, during which DJ Stewart also hit a two-run homer. The Braves finally got on the board during the fifth on a two-run double by Chadwick Tromp. Tromp went on to score on a wild pitch in that inning. The Mets went on to notch three more in the seventh. They added two more and the Braves scored one more in the eighth. Tyrone Taylor clubbed a grand slam during the ninth for New York, who won the ballgame, again by a final score of 16-4.
Allan Winans took the loss for Atlanta. He was charged with seven runs (six of them earned) and eight hits, walking two, and striking out one through five innings. Jose Quintana got the win for New York.
The Braves’ first homestand of the season resulted in a total of four wins and two losses. They will be in Miami, FL this weekend for a NL East set versus the Marlins.
