GHC CHARGERS HAVE NEW HOME AS BALLFIELDS OPEN IN CARTERSVILLE

(Media release from Georgia Highlands College):

Georgia Highlands College (GHC) recently opened its new baseball and softball complex located adjacent to the Savoy Automobile Museum at the GHC Cartersville site, 5441 GA-20, Cartersville, GA 30121.

The complex includes fields for baseball and softball, a 5,000 square foot hitting facility, restrooms, concession stands, press boxes and other amenities expected for a true collegiate athletic experience. For example, the fields are outfitted with TruHop, a turf designed especially for baseball and softball that provides durability and closely mimics natural grass.

Coaches and players will enjoy true collegiate dugouts complete with bathrooms, while fans will be able to view games from fixed-back seating with state-of-the-art lighting and hear play-by-play commentary via a high-quality announcement system. For those who cannot attend games in-person, the complex also offers new streaming capabilities.

While the college has been home to National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) baseball and softball teams for more than a decade, the teams played their first home game at the complex as part of a special alumni event on February 3. More than 50 former players were in attendance.

“This new complex has been a long time in the making, and since we’ve been ‘road warriors’ for so long it’s nice to finally play at home,” Director of Athletics Brandan Harrell said. “It was really cool to see the pride on our alumni’s faces when they went into the facility for the first time.”

The construction of the complex was made possible by a $12.2 million private donation made through the GHC Foundation with early prep and construction beginning in 2019.

“This complex really is a dream come true for the college and we are grateful to all our administrators and community partners that have made this a reality,” Harrell said.

In addition, the complex serves as a symbol of GHC Athletics dedication to growth and providing opportunities for student athletes across all sports.

Chargers Baseball and Softball games are open to the public and general admission tickets are $10, or $100 for season passes. View the upcoming schedule for all GHC athletic teams at ghcchargers.com.

A formal ribbon cutting for the complex will be held this spring.
