AMERICAN RED CROSS CURRENTLY FACES A BLOOD SHORTAGE, DONATIONS ARE URGENTLY SOUGHT

The American Red Cross is facing a blood shortage and is encouraging those who are eligible to donate blood as soon as possible.

Carla Maton, Executive Director of the Northwest Georgia Chapter, says that the blood shortage has continued from January into February. Donations are urgently sought to meet the demand by hospitals for life-saving blood.

Recent winter weather across the nation intensified the blood shortage, attests Maton, who adds that the American Red Cross provides nearly 40 percent of the blood supply nationwide.

Maton urges concerned citizens to visit www.redcrossblood.org to get details on upcoming blood drives in the area. She says that those who are unable to donate blood may still support the cause by serving as a volunteer at a blood drive.
