OCTOBER IS DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AWARENESS MONTH, OBSERVANCE SPEARHEADED LOCALLY BY HOSPITALITY HOUSE FOR WOMEN, INC.

October is observed annually as Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The observance is spearheaded in Rome/Floyd County by the Hospitality House for Women, Inc.

DVAM is primarily focused on prevention and awareness, asserts Caroline Groce, Prevention and Outreach Coordinator. One in three women and one in nine men experience some form of intimate partner violence during their lifetime.

Hospitality House will team with the Rome-Floyd County Commission on Children and Youth for the ‘1 in 3 It Could Be Me’ campaign next Tuesday, October 3rd. Pre-registered participants will wear buttons which bear that message. They are urged to create social media posts featuring the hashtag #sayitoutloud and to tag both non-profits in those posts. People without the button can still support the campaign by wearing purple.

DVAM activities will also include the annual Walk A Mile in Her Shoes on Friday, October 20th.

Help is a phone call away for victims of domestic violence, says Groce. The Hospitality House’s 24-hour crisis line may be reached at (706) 235-4673 (or 235-HOPE).
