The Atlanta Braves fell to the Philadelphia Phillies by 6-5 in 10 innings on Wednesday afternoon in the finale of a three-game National League East set at Truist Park. Philadelphia took the series by 2-1.
The Phillies got on the board in the top of the first inning with an RBI single by Alec Bohm. Nick Castellanos led off the second with a home run. He had a two-run shot during the fourth to increase Philadelphia’s lead to 4-0. Atlanta challenged that lead with an RBI single from Matt Olson in the bottom of the fourth, an RBI single from Nicky Lopez during the fifth, an RBI single from Austin Riley and an RBI double from Marcell Ozuna which tied the game up at 4-4 in the eighth.
However, the Phillies broke that tie with a two-run double by Bryson Stott in the top of the 10th. The Braves scored a run on a sac fly from Ozzie Albies in the bottom of that inning, but ended up losing the ball game, again, by a final score of 6-5.
AJ Minter was charged with the loss for Atlanta. Craig Kimbrel got the win and Matt Strahm picked up the save for Philadelphia.
The NL East champion Braves still have the best record in MLB, now 97-55 on the 2023 regular season.
