The Atlanta Braves finished a six-game homestand with a 12-5 victory over the Los Angeles Angels on Wednesday afternoon in the last outing of a three-game interleague set at Truist Park. Atlanta took that series 2-1 and went 5-1 on their homestand.
The Braves got on the board with a three-run homer from Ronald Acuna Jr. in the bottom of the third inning.
LA scored a run in the top of the fourth on an RBI single by Hunter Renfroe. Atlanta notched six runs during the bottom of that inning to include a two-run homer by Austin Riley. That was followed by a home run off the bat of Matt Olson.
The Angels scored a trio of runs in the top of the sixth on a ground-out from Renfroe and two-run triple by Eduardo Escobar. The Braves answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of that inning on an RBI single by Travis d’Arnaud. Ozzie Albies added an RBI double in the eighth. The Angels scored another run in the ninth on a ground rule double from Zach Neto, but the Braves ran away with the victory, again, by a final score of 12-5.
Yonny Chirinos was credited with the win for Atlanta after surrendering three runs and six hits, walking one, and striking out five over five innings. Lucas Giolito was charged with the loss for LA.
The National League East-leading Braves improved their MLB-best record to 69-37 on the 2023 regular season. They are off today and will begin a three-game set in Chicago against the Cubs on Friday.
