The Atlanta Braves were defeated by the Boston Red Sox 5-3 on Wednesday evening in the finale of a two-game interleague set at Fenway Park in Boston, MA. That allowed Boston to sweep the series.
Ozzie Albies got the Braves on the board with a three-run homer in the top of the sixth inning.
The Red Sox got on the board in the bottom of that inning with a solo shot by Rafael Devers. They took the lead with three runs in the seventh to include a solo home run by Triston Casas and two-run double by Justin Turner. Adam Duvall added a solo homer in the eighth.
Pierce Johnson was tagged with the loss for Atlanta. Starting pitcher Spencer Strider gave up three runs and six hits, walked one, and struck out 10 through six and one-third innings of work. Joe Jacques was credited with the win and Kenley Jansen picked up the save for Boston.
The National League East-leading Braves still have the best record in MLB, now 64-36 on the 2023 regular season. They are off today and will return to their home field in Atlanta on Friday evening to begin a six-game homestand with the first of three games against the Milwaukee Brewers.
