The Atlanta Braves beat the Philadelphia Phillies 8-5 on Thursday evening in the first match of a four game National League East series at Truist Park; that marked the second straight win for Atlanta.
Austin Riley got the Braves on the board with a two-run homer in the bottom of the first inning. The Phillies tied it at 2-2 on a two run shot by Alec Bohm and took a 3-2 lead with an RBI double by Bryson Stott during the top of the second. Marcell Ozuna hit a solo home run in the bottom of that inning to tie the game at 3-3. The Braves took a 4-3 lead on a sac fly from Michael Harris II in the fourth. The game was again tied in top of the fifth as Bryce Harper hit a solo home run for Philadelphia. Atlanta took a 5-4 lead in the bottom of that inning on Riley’s second home run of the night.
And yet again, the game was tied in the top of the seventh on an RBI double from Kyle Schwarber. Travis d’Arnaud had a pinch-hit, two run single to put the Braves back in front during the bottom of the eighth.
The Braves notched another run in that inning on a sac fly by Matt Olson and went on to win the game, again, by a final score of 8-5.
Nick Anderson was credited with the win in relief for Atlanta. Raisel Iglesias picked up the save. Gregory Soto took the loss for Philadelphia.
