The Atlanta Braves beat the Miami Marlins 3-1 on Sunday afternoon in the finale of a four-game National League East set at Loan Depot Park in Miami, FL. It was the sixth victory in a row for the Braves, who swept the weekend series among division rivals and finished their 11-game road trip with a total of seven wins and four losses.
The Marlins struck first on an RBI single by Miguel Rojas during the bottom of the fourth inning. It was the lone run surrendered by Braves starter Bryce Elder, who also gave up just three hits, walked three, and struck out a career-high 10 over seven innings.
The Braves struck back offensively with three runs during the top of the ninth to include a home run off the bat of Michael Harris II on the first pitch of the inning that tied the game at 1-1.
William Contreras put the Braves in front with an RBI single which scored Vaughn Grissom.
Matt Olson scored on a wild pitch by Tanner Scott to add some insurance for the Braves. Kenley Jansen gave up just one hit and struck out one during the home half of that inning to pick up the save. Tyler Matzek was credited with the win for Atlanta. Scott took the loss for Miami.
The Braves improved to 70-46 on the ’22 season and are still in second place of the NL East, currently 5.5 games back from the division-leading New York Mets. The Braves will play host to the Mets this evening in the first outing of a four game set at Truist Park. The first pitch is slated for 7:20 pm. Listen on WLAQ 1410 AM/96.9 FM; air time is 6:05 pm.
In a minor league update, the Rome Braves defeated the Asheville Tourists by 13-3 on Sunday in the last meeting of a six-game set in Asheville, NC. Rome took that series 4-2. They have a scheduled night off tonight and will be back on their home field at AdventHealth Stadium on Tuesday night for the first of six games versus the Greensboro Grasshoppers.
