The Atlanta Braves defeated the St. Louis Cardinals by 7-6 on Monday night in the first outing of a three-game series at Truist Park. It allowed the Braves to stretch their first winning streak of the 2025 regular season to four straight.
St. Louis struck first with a couple of runs during the top of the second inning on RBI singles by Pedro Pages and Victor Scott II. Atlanta tied it at 2-2 with a two-run homer from Austin Riley in the bottom of the third. Nolan Gorman had an RBI single which gave the Cardinals a 3-2 lead in the sixth. And then the Braves surged ahead with five runs in the bottom of the eighth on an RBI single from Matt Olson, sac fly by Michael Harris II, and three-run homer by Sean Murphy. The Cards scored three runs in the top of the ninth on an RBI double from Scott and two-run homer from Willson Contreras, but the Braves held on for the victory, again, by a final score of 7-6.
Daysbel Hernandez was credited with the win in relief for Atlanta, while Phil Maton was charged with the loss for St. Louis.
