ATLANTA BRAVES OPEN NL EAST SERIES WITH VICTORY OVER PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES

The Atlanta Braves picked up a 7-5 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies on Tuesday evening in the opener of a three-game National League East series at Truist Park.

The Phillies struck first with an RBI single from Nick Castellanos during the top of the first inning. Sean Murphy clubbed a three-run homer in his return from the injured list to put the Braves ahead in the bottom of the second.

Philadelphia tied it up with a two-run triple from Kyle Schwarber and took a 4-3 lead with an RBI double by Castellanos in the top of the third. Schwarber added a solo home run in the fifth. Atlanta tied it up at 5-5 in the sixth on an RBI single by Murphy and sac fly from Michael Harris II, then took the lead on an RBI double by Austin Riley in the seventh.

The Braves added an insurance run in the eighth as Orlando Arcia scored on a wild pitch.

Daysbel Hernandez was credited with the win in relief and Raisel Iglesias got the save for Atlanta. Orion Kerkering took the loss for Philadelphia.
