The Georgia Department of Labor announced Thursday that Rome recorded an unemployment rate of 3.4 percent in January, unchanged over-the-previous-month. A year ago, the rate was 3.6 percent.

The labor force in Rome increased by 21 over-the-month and by 341 over-the-year, reaching 48,313.
Rome finished the month with 46,663 employed residents, up 23 over-the-month and up 420 compared to the same time last year.
Rome ended January with 47,300 jobs. That number decreased by 600 over-the-month and rose by 800 over-the-year.
In January, initial unemployment claims in Rome decreased by 137 over-the-month and were down by 166 compared to the same month last year, totaling 786.
Northwest Georgia
- The unemployment rate was down two-tenths to 3.4 percent over-the-month, the rate was 3.4 percent one year ago.
- The labor force was down 2,273 over-the-month and up 1,598 over-the-year, to 454,504.
- The number of employed was down 1,119 over-the-month and up 1,375 over-the-year, to 439,066.
- Initial claims were up 957 over-the-month and up 243 over-the-year, to 8,002
