Local non-profit Empowered Elegance wants to make prom night special for under-resourced young ladies in Rome, Floyd County, and surrounding areas again this year. Its community partners are encouraged to nominate students for the 3rd annual Prom Pop Up dress shopping event set for Friday, February 21st and Saturday, February 22nd.
Kelli Barnes, co-founder of Empowered Elegance, states that the Prom Pop Up is geared towards assisting those who might not be able to afford prom-related expenses. Participants are typically nominated by social workers and school counselors.
The public may also nominate young ladies to participate in the event, says fellow co-founder Cristin Warden, who adds that volunteers are also sought at this time. Information is available on the organization’s Facebook page or www.empoweredelegancega.org.
Donations of dresses, jewelry, hand bags, shoes, and make up are also needed and may be taken to Top Hat Formal Wear in downtown Rome.
Young ladies are treated to the ‘full boutique experience’ at the Prom Pop Up, enthuses Warden.
Another Pop Up will be offered by Empowered Elegance in the Fall for those who plan to attend Homecoming.
