GEORGIA DEPARTMENT OF LABOR: ROME’S JOB MARKET HITS ALL-TIME HIGH WITH 48,800 JOBS IN DECEMBER

The Georgia Department of Labor announced Thursday that Rome recorded an unemployment rate of 3.4 percent in December, up two-tenths of a percent over-the-month. A year ago, the rate was 2.6 percent.

The labor force in Rome increased by 278 over-the-month and by 737 over-the-year, reaching 48,792.

Rome finished the month with 47,121 employed residents, up 156 over-the-month and up 320 compared to the same time last year.

Rome ended December with 48,800 jobs, an all-time high. That number increased by 300 over-the-month and rose by 700 over-the-year.

In December, initial unemployment claims in Rome increased by 673 over-the-month and were up by 544 compared to the same month last year, totaling 923.

Northwest Georgia

  • The unemployment rate was up two-tenths to 3.7 percent over-the-month, the rate was 2.8 percent one year ago.
  • The labor force was up 101 over-the-month and up 6,838 over-the-year, to 446,671.
  • The number of employed was down 1,190 over-the-month and up 2,354 over-the-year, to 429,934.
  • Initial claims were up 4,790 over-the-month and up 3,179 over-the-year, to 7,045.
