FLOYD EMA OFFERS PREPAREDNESS TIPS AS WINTER CONTINUES

More Winter weather on the way? That is possible as this season continues, and it is wise to be prepared.

Tim Herrington, the Director of the Floyd County Emergency Management Agency, says that now is a good time to get an NOAA weather radio and/or some reliable weather apps for the most up-to-date forecasts throughout the Winter and year-round.

Floyd EMA relays weather-related updates and preparedness tips on its app, which is available for free in the Apple App Store and Google Play.

This is also a good time to invest in a generator to prepare for possible power outages when severe weather occurs, states Herrington. If you already have a generator, test it to make sure that it is in proper working order.

Herrington also urges extreme caution with heating devices whenever chilly temperatures strike.

A slight chance of snow is in the forecast for our area next week, according to the National Weather Service. There may be more opportunities for wintry precipitation in the not-too-distant future, as two more months are still left in Winter. This area has seen snow as late as March (and even early April). On the other hand, we could also see Spring-like weather conditions from time to time through the end of Winter. The first official day of Spring will be March 20th.
