Less than a month remains until the organization known for over a century as the Boy Scouts of America officially becomes Scouting America.
Eric Vaughn, Scouting America Northwest Georgia Council board member, says the name change will take effect on February 8th, when the organization celebrates its 115th anniversary.
This change is intended to reflect an increased inclusiveness, according to Vaughn.
A full slate is ahead of local scouts in February to include the organization’s anniversary celebration. The annual Scouting for Food community service project is also set for next month. February 1st is door hanger day – Vaughn says that’s when scouts place hangers on doors around the community to ask for food donations; those donations will be gathered on the next Saturday, February 8th. Food collected by local scouts will be donated to the Salvation Army of Rome.
New scouts and volunteers are always sought, states Vaughn. Connect with Scouting America Northwest Georgia Council on Facebook to get additional information.
