GEORGIA STATE PARKS AND HISTORIC SITES INVITES ACTIVE GEORGIANS TO FIRST DAY HIKES SET FOR NEW YEAR’S DAY

Georgia State Parks and Historic Sites will begin 2025 with First Day Hikes on Wednesday, January 1st.

Kim Hatcher, Public Affairs Coordinator, says that hikers may select from 70 plus ranger-led adventures on New Year’s Day. Georgia’s First Day Hikes are part of a nationwide initiative to encourage people to start the year in a healthy way.

Northwest Georgia residents are urged by Hatcher to join a First Day Hike at Cloudland Canyon, James H. “Sloppy” Floyd, or Fort Mountain State Parks. Brave souls may also opt to participate in the 13th annual Black Bear Plunge at Fort Mountain, also set for New Year’s Day.

There will also be a pair of hikes for mobility-impaired visitors; the deadline to register for those has already passed.
