November is observed every year as Lung Cancer Awareness Month. The Northwest Georgia Regional Cancer Coalition aims to raise the community’s awareness of lung cancer, as well as the resources available to those affected by the illness.
Erin Hernandez, the coalition’s President and CEO, says that a recent increase in lung cancer screening has largely resulted in an increased survival rate.
The coalition provides assistance with lung cancer screenings to people that need it, states Hernandez.

Ten to twenty percent of those who are diagnosed with lung cancer are not smokers, adds Hernandez.
