Volunteers and donations are sought for the 37th annual Thanksgiving Love Feast. The traditional Thanksgiving dinner will be served to those in need at the Rome Civic Center on Thursday, November 28th from 11 am until 2 pm (or until the food runs out).
Continuing this holiday tradition requires a lot of hard work, volunteers, and donations, according to Reverend Terrell Shields, Chairman of the Concerned Citizens of Rome and Floyd County.
Those interested in serving as a volunteer should call (706) 291-2091 to find out when they are most needed. Time slots are from 9 am until 11 am, 11 am until 1 pm, and 1 pm until 3 pm.
Financial contributions are constantly sought for the Love Feast, according to Reverend Shields.
To donate money, send your check payable to “Thanksgiving Love Feast” to P.O. Box 161, Rome, Georgia 30161. Contributions may also be made by using the Cash app at $Lovefeast1987.
Donations of warm winter coats and jackets are also sought for distribution to those in need at the Thanksgiving Love Feast. They may be taken over to the Civic Center on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving from 6 pm to 8 pm, says Shields, who also welcomes the donation of desserts at that time.
The annual effort to feed the hungry began more than three decades ago after Terrica, Shields’ daughter, learned at her daycare that some people would not have anything to eat on Thanksgiving. Her big sister Cherish was certain that their father could do something about it, and it led to the creation of the Love Feast. This event has since become an annual tradition for the Shields family and for the community, enthuses Reverend Shields.
Reverend Shields expresses his gratitude to the citizens of Rome and Floyd County that have supported the Thanksgiving Love Feast throughout the past 37 years.
