Locals and visitors to Rome, Georgia have opportunities to enjoy films and more during the 2024 Rome International Film Festival, which continues into the weekend.
Festivities for Halloween include a free screening of “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown”, followed by a 40th anniversary screening of “Gremlins” with actor Zach Galligan in attendance. Both of those will take place at the DeSoto Theatre in downtown Rome.
RIFF ’24 will additionally feature documentaries, international shorts, panels, Georgia features, and even a voice acting panel discussion, enthuses Leanne Cook, Executive Director, who says that she is particularly looking forward to a Proof podcast update over the weekend.
Festival highlights will also include the bestowing of the Flannery O’Connor Award for Storytelling to actor and director Tim Blake Nelson, in addition to a screening of his film “Bang Bang”, says Cook.
Nelson was featured in the blockbuster film “O Brother, Where Art Thou?”, which will be screened on Sunday, the last day of the festival. Music lovers will want to attend RIFF’s Closing Night Concert at which the Rome Music Collective will perform the Grammy Award-winning soundtrack to that film, according to Cook.
