ROME SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA TO KICK OFF 103RD SEASON WITH TRIBUTE TO CAROLE KING

Media release from the Rome Symphony Orchestra:

The Rome Symphony Orchestra (RSO) is proud to announce its 2024-25 season, unified under the theme of “That’s Entertainment,” featuring six performances spanning various genres and special community partnerships. The 103rd season will open with the RSO’s presentation of “Natural Woman: A Tribute to Carole King” on Saturday, Oct. 12, at 7 p.m. at the Rome City Auditorium.

“This year, we’ve programmed a magnificent season featuring music from across multiple genres of entertainment, including pop music, literature, television, classical music, and movies,” said Jeffrey Dokken, conductor and music director of the Rome Symphony Orchestra. “Together with our talented musicians, we’ll bring back a few familiar faces and welcome some new ones.”

Created and performed by singer-pianist Katie Pinder Brown, the Oct. 12 performance will mark this Carole King tribute’s first time accompanied by a symphony orchestra.

“This is her music as you’ve never heard it before,” added Dokken. “This celebration of one of the greatest and most prolific songwriters of all time will be taken to the next level with Katie at the piano, backup singers, and our full symphony of musicians.”

In addition to the musical revue, the “That’s Entertainment” lineup will include performances of Brahms’ Piano Concerto No. 2 and Mozart’s Symphony No. 40 in G minor, chamber music inspired by Netflix’s “Bridgerton,” and two performances of “The Pirates of Penzance” in collaboration with the Rome Shakespeare Festival. This season’s special guest performers will include Broadway veteran Jacquelynne Fontaine-Isaac, pianist Alex Wasserman, and the winners of the RSO’s 2024 Young Artist Competition.

Each performance will take place at the Rome City Auditorium, except for the final concert, which will be held at Darlington School:

• Natural Woman: A Tribute to Carole King (Oct. 12, 2024)

• The Magic of Mozart, The Brilliance of Brahms (Nov. 16, 2024)

• The Strings of Christmas (Dec. 1, 2024)

• An Evening of Broadway (Feb. 15, 2025)

• The Pirates of Penzance (April 19-20, 2025)

• Bridgerton: Music in the Garden (June 7, 2025)

“We hope you’ll join us for one of the Rome Symphony’s most exciting orchestra seasons yet,” said Dokken. “From Brahms to Mozart, Broadway to Bridgerton, this season was designed to truly entertain.”
