CITY OF ROME, GA ANNOUNCES TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF BARRON STADIUM TRACK FOR REPAIRS

Media release from the City of Rome, GA:

The City of Rome is informing the public that the track at Barron Stadium is temporarily closed for necessary repairs. This closure is due to a water leak discovered beneath the surface of the track.
City maintenance crews and consultants were on-site Monday to begin the process of removing the track surface above the affected area. This will allow them to assess the extent of the damage and determine the required repairs. The closure is effective immediately and will remain in place until all repairs are completed and the track is deemed safe for public use.
“The safety and quality of our facilities are top priorities,” said Chris Jenkins, City of Rome Public Works Director. “We understand the inconvenience this may cause to our community and appreciate your patience as we work to resolve this issue as quickly as possible. Our goal is to reopen the track to the public as soon as we can, with minimal disruption.”
“The closure of Barron Stadium and the track will not impact any events already scheduled, including the football games for Rome High and Shorter University. We sincerely appreciate the public’s patience and understanding as we undertake necessary repairs. Our goal is to ensure that the track is restored to its best possible condition for everyone who relies on it,” said Chris Boden, Athletic Director at Rome High.
Updates on the repair progress and an estimated reopening date will be communicated as soon as they are available.
