The American Red Cross joins the Federal Emergency Management Agency and emergency management agencies throughout the country in September to observe National Preparedness Month.
Carla Maton, Executive Director of the Northwest Georgia chapter, states that the primary focus of this annual observance is to educate and prepare families for disasters.
The theme for 2024 is “Start A Conversation”. Maton encourages the public to go to www.redcross.org and download the free Red Cross Emergency app for tips on how to have a conversation about disaster preparedness with your family.
House fires are the most common disasters to which the American Red Cross responds each year, adds Maton.
