ATLANTA BRAVES OPEN HOMESTAND WITH SHUTOUT WIN OVER COLORADO ROCKIES

The Atlanta Braves began a seven-game homestand on Tuesday night with a 3-0 shutout victory over the Colorado Rockies in the first meeting of a three-game set at Truist Park.

The Braves notched their first run of the evening on an RBI double from Gio Urshela in the bottom of the third inning. Urshela went on to score on a throwing error by Michael Toglia in that inning as Michael Harris II reached on an infield single. Harris contributed a sac fly in the seventh that made it 3-0 in favor of the Braves.

Chris Sale reached 200 strikeouts and picked up his 16th win of the season for Atlanta after giving up six hits, walking none, and striking out nine in seven scoreless innings of work. Raisel Iglesias picked up the save. Kyle Freeland was charged with the loss for Colorado.

The Braves are now 75-63 on the 2024 regular season and remain in second place of the National League East, still seven games back from the division-leading Philadelphia Phillies. They maintain a half game lead over the New York Mets for the final NL Wild Card spot. The Rockies remain in last place of the NL West at 51-88. The teams will meet again this evening at 7:20 pm.
