ATLANTA BRAVES LOSE FINALE BUT TAKE NL EAST SERIES VS. WASHINGTON NATIONALS AT TRUIST PARK

The Atlanta Braves finished a six-game homestand on Sunday with a loss to the Washington Nationals by 5-1 in the last meeting of a three-game National League East set at Truist Park. It denied a sweep of the series for the Braves, who also saw their latest winning streak come to an end at three in a row. The team went 4-2 during their homestand.

The Nationals notched a run in the top of the first inning and held a 1-0 lead until Matt Olson got the Braves on the board with a game-tying home run in the bottom of the sixth. However, the Nationals broke the tie in the seventh as Keibert Ruiz scored on a wild pitch by Luke Jackson. They added two more in that inning on an RBI double by Jacob Young and an RBI single by CJ Abrams, who added another RBI single in the ninth.

Jackson was tagged with the loss for Atlanta, whose starting pitcher Reynaldo Lopez gave up just one run and three hits, walked three, and struck out seven over six innings. Jacob Barnes was credited with the win and Kyle Finnegan got the save for Washington.

The Braves are now 70-60 on the 2024 regular season and remain in second place of the NL East. They will open a seven-game road trip tonight with the first of three outings in Minnesota against the Twins. The first pitch is slated for 7:40 pm Eastern.
