ATLANTA BRAVES TAKE NL EAST SET WITH WIN IN FINALE OVER PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES, UP NEXT – BRAVES VS. WASHINGTON NATIONALS AT TRUIST PARK OVER THE WEEKEND

The Atlanta Braves picked up a 3-2 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies on Thursday evening to wrap up a three-game National League East set at Truist Park. That allowed the Braves to take the series by 2-1.

The Phillies scored the first run of the night during the top of the first inning with an RBI fielder’s choice groundout by Nick Castellanos. Gio Urshela hit an RBI ground rule double for the Braves to tie the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the second. Atlanta took the lead with an RBI double from Matt Olson in the third and added insurance with a home run by Adam Duvall to begin the sixth. JT Realmuto had an RBI double for Philadelphia in the seventh.

Spencer Schwellenbach was Atlanta’s winning pitcher. He gave up just two runs and three hits, walked one, and struck out nine through six and two-third innings. Raisel Iglesias got the save. Cristopher Sanchez was charged with the loss for Philadelphia.

The Braves improved to 68-59 on the ’24 season and remain in second place of the NL East, now six games behind the division-leading Phillies. Atlanta will host the Washington Nationals in a three-game series over the weekend.

Tonight’s series opener will not be broadcast on WLAQ 1410 AM or 96.9 FM due to our coverage of high school football. Listen to WLAQ for the play-by-play story of the rest of the weekend series from the Atlanta Braves Radio Network.
