The Atlanta Braves opened a six-game homestand on Tuesday evening with a 3-1 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies in the first meeting of a three game National League East series at Truist Park. That marked the third consecutive win for Atlanta.
The Braves notched the first run of the night on an RBI single from Michael Harris II in the bottom of the third inning. JT Realmuto hit an RBI single for the Phillies that tied the game up at 1-1 during the top of the fourth. Marcell Ozuna broke that tie with a home run to begin the bottom of the sixth. Gio Urshela drove in an insurance run with a bases-loaded walk during the bottom of the eighth in his Braves debut.
Starting pitcher Reynaldo Lopez gave up just one run and five hits, walked one, and struck out 10 over five innings of work in his return from the injured list. Grant Holmes was credited with the win in relief for Atlanta, and Raisel Iglesias picked up the save. Zack Wheeler took the loss for Philadelphia.
The Braves improved to 67-58 on the ’24 season and remain in second place of the National League East, currently six games behind the division-leading Phillies. The teams will meet again this evening at 7:20 pm. Tune into play-by-play coverage from the Atlanta Braves Radio Network locally on WLAQ 1410 AM/96.9 FM; airtime is 6:05 pm.
