The Atlanta Braves beat the New York Mets 9-2 on Sunday afternoon in the finale of a four-game National League East set in New York. That resulted in a 2-2 split of the series.
Matt Olson clubbed a three-run homer to get the Braves on the board during the top of the fourth inning. Travis d’Arnaud also scored on a wild pitch in that inning. Orlando Arcia had a home run to lead off the top of the seventh.
Austin Riley also contributed a two-run homer during that inning. Ramon Laureano added a two-run shot in the eighth.
The Mets were rendered scoreless until the bottom of the eighth, when Pete Alonso hit a two-run homer.
Dylan Lee got the win in relief for Atlanta, whose starting pitcher Reynaldo Lopez exited the game early with right forearm tightness. David Peterson was charged with the loss for New York.
The Braves are now in second place of the NL East with a record of 56-48 on the 2024 season. The Mets are in third place at 55-50.
The Braves will continue their current seven game road trip tonight with the first of three games in Milwaukee, WI versus the Brewers. The first pitch is slated for 8:10 pm Eastern.
